There once was an industry that was a perfect capitalist system. It had no government interference. It was Ayn Rand’s Dream industry that almost ALL other industries have to directly deal with. It is the Printing Industry.  Let’s look at what has happened to the printing industry in the past year.

First, as a commentary, things have become so competitive in the printing industry it seems to crowd out its own growth. To explain that statement, think of this…

  • Some would say that the printing industry is growing in all the wrong places (read China).
  • Digital Printing had a quality jump last year that comes dangerously close to offset’s level of detail. Also the price point is close- but not yet a win in most cases. Read More→

inQbation's diagram for their CMSFirst off, so you know what I’m talking about, check into this site. It’s a subset of their organizational website. These folks are some serious coders that have expanded the power of a good number of platforms, wordpress, drupal, and joomla. Their CEO Blake is so forward thinking, he can take any small kernel of an idea and expound upon it. Your small idea, he can push to the boundaries of greatness. To be frank, he almost scared me off one of my projects. But his people have the experience to make these ideas happen.

After getting past some of the main database issues, I understand that the programming translates from one platform to another very well. Their CMS which they placed on top of the WordPress system is a very robust creation. Read More→

For the last two weeks I was working at Progressive Lighting. They needed some extra graphic help. They had some looming deadlines and they prayed that they didn’t look for help too late.

Some of the issues to be addressed:

  • Multiple catalogs
  • Filming a commercial on site
  • Updating their catalog
  • Website changes
  • mini sales promotions

I got there and their file system was confusing. I was working in InDesign mostly working to make a LOT of catalog pages. Not easy. There is a LOT of work behind it. Their image files and how they are organized was really the thing that was dragging me behind.

Now I am an outsider- to someone that was familiar with their products- they may have been a lot faster. But that was a “Might” not really a “definitely.” We were looking at some options on using Photoshop actions that will help us re organize and resize the database of images in the catalog and re purpose it for the website. I made a solution that would work for about 90% of their images. Now we need to make sure we can fish out those out of proportion images.

I was auditioned by Product Development for my writing ability. I hope I can help them out as well. I was basically writing love letters to different light fixtures. An interesting exercise in creativity.

The full experiment is to make as few websites to manage for our life as possible. There are already too many properties to manage in the real world. I want to have two hubs, one that is social and the other that is professional.

visual link to portfolio siteThis is my first post on a resurrected website. PixelDivision.net is going to be my base hub site for all my internet based life. Also I’m using this site for all the different PHP experiments that I’m working on. I have a couple of plugin ideas, and other plugins that I have seen that I want to expand.

Wish me luck!
